Vyšehrad

Vyšehrad is a place where every visitor can find something interesting. In Czech legends this site is known as the seat of mythical princes. During the 11th and 12th century the Czech rulers chose Vyšehrad as their official seat. In the 17th century this place was rebuilt into a baroque citadel. Nowadays many visitors come to Vyšehrad to remember significant Czech figures (writers, composers, artists, scientists, ...) who are buried here. And a lot of people visit this site just because they want to enjoy the magnificent views of the whole city from the ramparts and relax in the park.

During the trip you will learn something about the history of this charming place and you will see the famous monuments - St. Martin`s Rotunda, St. Peter and Paul Church, the national cemetery, the park with statues by Josef Václav Myslbek. An essential part of the guided tour are the legends - about princess Libuše and her husband Přemysl Oráč, about the maiden`s war and about the Devil`s Pillar.

In the Vyšehrad area you can also visit a unique sight - the Vyšehrad casemates. Casemates are passages inside the fortress ramparts used originally by troops. The passages run into a large hall where six original statues from the Charles Bridge are hidden.

The tour takes 2 - 3 hours.
