New Town
The New Town is a disctrict founded by Charles IV in 1348. This part of Prague has preserved its layout in its original state since that time. It was planned and built so carefully that it still accomodates the modern city life.
The tour starts on the Wenceslas Square. During the tour you can learn that the square is linked with the modern Czech history. The most famous sight on the square is the St. Wenceslas statue. But other builidings such as the National Museum are worth seeing, too. We continue to the metro station Můstek and the Na Příkopě Street. Nowadays it is one of the most busy shopping streets in Prague but there used to stand city walls separating the New Town from the Old Town. A piece of this fortification has been preserved - the Powder Tower on the Square of Republic. Our walk continues in the area of the Old Town then: we stop in front of the Estates Theatre and visit a few lovely squares where markets used to take place. The tour is finished in front of the National Theatre.
You need 2 - 3 hours for this tour.
