National Theatre
The impressive building of the National Theatre in Prague is strongly connected with the history of the 19th century in the Czech lands. It was built as a symbol of the Czech language and culture. The theatre was funded from the fund-raising campaigns that were held among common people in the country. But after the opening in 1881 and a few performances, it was badly damaged by a fire. Despite this tragedy, a new fund-raising campaign was started and in two years the theatre was renewed and reopened in 1883.
During the tour in the National Theatre, you can visit the beautifully decorated spaces such as the auditorium and the main foyer, learn about the enthusiastic resolution of the Czech people to build the "Golden Chapel" as the theatre is sometimes called and enjoy a breathtaking view from the terrace of the building.
